Hello and welcome!

My name is Jity and I have been Singing and Signing in the Essex area now for about five years. I did the Sing and Sign programme with my son and was absolulety astounded with the results. There are so many benefits and reasons why signing works, but i have just put together some information for you to look over.

Babysigning is a method of communicating with your baby before they are capable of speech. Learning words can be a slow process but the introduction of signs at only a few months of age can improve the communication between parent and child, enhancing and enriching their relationship. Although your child may not be able to form words, if she is hungry she can sign to you. If he needs a clean nappy she can let you know.

·        Doing Sing and Sign classes enables babies/children to speak with their hands before they can talk.

·        It increases the clarity a of child's wants and needs.

·        It promotes active participation and play.

·        Creates a rich learning environment; fosters language growth and music appreciation.

·        May help a child speak sooner by increasing their receptive language vocabulary.

·        Provides an opportunity to strengthen and develop fine motor skills.

What to expect at Sing and Sign classes.

·        Specific words in songs are highlighted by signs.

·        Target words are paired with signs in music to provide for an opportunity for learning in a structured and fun manner.

·        The signs, gestures, and imitation skills learned are meant to be an easy way to bridge the gap until more expressive language skills are learned. In addition to specific signs, it is important for children to be able to imitate actions and gestures.

·        Songs provide an opportunity to practice imitation skills, not just specific signs.
