Hello! I'm Vicki and I run Sing and Sign classes in Worthing and the surrounding areas.

I started signing with my twins six years ago, when they were a few months old and we attended Babes classes. We enjoyed them so much we moved on through Stage 1 and Stage 2 as they got older.

Early signs helped me communicate to them and transition through our days together such as milk, more and nappy change. As time went on and they began using signs too and we were able to use signs to understand their interests and needs at a young age.

It's natural for babies signing to drop off as they learn to talk (that's what we're aiming for, great talkers) so they don't use signs now but they still remember so much about their time at Sing and Sign!

I love to share the skills I have in classes with other families so they can sign with their little ones. Classes are so fun and with a 10 week term I'm able to get to know everyone and focus on getting you communicating at home!

    Why Sing and Sign?

Sing and Sign is a specialist class to help communication before a child can talk. Signing helps relationship building between those who use it. Signs are always used alongside words to build confidence to encourage little talkers.

During my Sing and Sign experience I met like-minded parents and carers who were wanting to bond and learn alongside their children, and were all getting to know their babies and little ones like me.

Classes are relaxed, fun and can form an exciting part of your little one's routine.

Remember — you don't have to be a confident or “good singer” to sing to your child. Our songs are no more taxing than a round of Happy Birthday and everyone is warmly welcomed to learn and have fun together with their little one!

Our Summer Term starts on 22nd April 2024!

You can join our live in person classes, or online via our @home classes.

Information on Stages, Prices and Classes

Which Stage Class should I Attend?

We have 3 different "stages" of Sing and Sign which have been developed specifically for your baby's developmental stages.

Sing and Sign Babes classes are for 0 to 6 month olds with their parent / carer.

This gentle class explores themes such as eye contact, gesture and anticipation together with lots of cuddles, tickles and some simple signs.  All building the framework for good communication and brought to you using our magic ingredient - music!

Sing and Sign Stage 1 is ideal for babies from 6 months old up to around 14 months old and their parent / carer.
Themes include basic signs, nappies & bath time, emotions & bedtime.  You'll learn over 100 signs related to your routines and also the sort of things your baby may be interested in, such as animals and vehicles.
It is quite a big step from Stage 1 to Stage 2, so many people come to Stage 1 for two terms before attending Stage 2. However, this is also dependent on your baby's age.
Sing and Sign Stage 2 is great when your little one is 14+ months.
Moving about and probably starting to talk (although every baby is different, so there's no hard and fast rule!) as it is more active and interactive. Themes include weather, opposites, colours and the phonetic alphabet, together with simple counting songs, turn taking, sharing and of course, lots of fun!
How Long Do Classes Run For?
Babes classes run for about 30 minutes  - they are very relaxed. DO come if your baby is asleep - you will still be able to learn lots to take home and use with your baby.
Stage 1 and 2 classes run for 40-45 minutes, with time for a short chat at the end, so we are in the room for around an hour if you'd stay a bit after class.
All classes run for 10 week terms (Babes can be booked in 2 blocks of 5) with a half term break in the middle
How Many People Attend Sing and Sign Classes?
Class sizes are limited to 11 or 12 babies with their parent/carer.  In some all venues we are limiting this further due to Covid-19 restrictions. Up till now we've been running at up to 7 in a class, but as we progress I may allow a few more in venues where we have good ventilation and more room.

I Have Twins / Triplets - How Many Places Do I Pay For?
Twins/Triplets are welcome and only pay for one place. Please discuss this with me before booking so I can make sure we are sticking to Covid-19 restrictions on class sizes.

I Have An Older Child - Can They Come Too?
*At the moment we still have to be careful with allowing siblings into class due to class size restrictions, so please discuss with me before booking. If there is space they will be allowed. When we don't have to be careful with class sizes, they will be welcome again*
Siblings are welcome to come to 'help' at Stage 1 & 2 at no extra cost. Older siblings always enjoy the singing and we involve them as much as possible, although we do ask parents / carers to be considerate of the fact that the classes are not aimed at the older child and that they are responsible for not allowing them to run about or dominate the group.
Unfortunately, siblings are NOT permitted to attend Babes classes as the babies are so tiny.  If this causes you a problem, let me know and we can have a chat about your individual circumstances.
If you are bringing a friend's child as well as your own or are a Childminder bringing more than one child, please contact me to discuss your individual situation.
    How Much Does It Cost?
Babes classes cost £37.50 for a 5-week venue based course, £25 for 5 week online zoom course (when these are running) and £75 for a 10-week venue based course. Venue based courses also receive a Jessie Cat Song book and music included in your course fee.
Stage 1 & 2 classes cost £75.00 for the 10-week venue based course, £50.00 for 10-week @home online stand alone course.
Please note, our refund policy has now changed, please read our T's&C's before booking.

I Am On Holiday For A Couple Of The Classes.  Do I Still Have To Pay The Full Amount?
I'm afraid so. Sing and Sign classes operate as a course, not a drop-in and your place is guaranteed each week. Many people miss one or two weeks because of illness / holidays etc, they soon catch up as our classes are purposefully repetitive to help you remember the songs and the signs (and babies love routine and repetition too). We also e-mail you weekly about the theme of the week to complement the classes. You now have the option to upgrade your online membership to have access to use the @home classes course to catch up on any missed classes at home or to get some extra practise in. Also with your online membership you can gain access to more videos to support your learning, can view these classes anywhere you can use wifi, or internet data. For Babes you can use the music and song book to do a session at home instead.
In the event that I have to cancel a class, numbers permitting, I will invite you to join another live class that week. In extreme circumstances like weather, lockdown, long term illness, where we will have to miss running for more then 2 weeks, I will arrange for emergency @home access for customers, or put on an extra class, or in extreme circumstances give a partial refund. I am a small business with high costs for venues, child care etc, so refunds won't be made lightly. Discounts and credit rolling are options too.
One of the lovely things about Sing and Sign is that we keep the class sizes small and you see the same people each week.
