Your Sing and Sign Teachers
Jess has signed with her two daughters and, as a family, it allowed them to communicate with each other early on. “I loved that I'd found a class which combined music with something so useful, while also giving us the chance for a play and a chat after each class. It was so exciting seeing their signs develop, allowing them to communicate both their interests and needs." Following on from this experience, Jess has trained to run her own Sing and Sign baby signing classes and her lovely manner and passion for signing comes across in the sessions. She is a former primary school teacher and has taught children from different backgrounds, with different needs. She also runs a toddler group in town. She enjoys music and when she's not sewing and gets the chance, plays the piano.
Hi, I'm Jude I run Sing and Sign in South Warwickshire and teach classes in Southam.
This is me with my little boy Max. We starting signing with Max when he was 6 months old and he picked it up straight away. As a family signing has been such an integral part of our lives. Max rarely cried as he could sign for exactly what he wanted. Our favourite sign was 'help' which he would sign to us every time he couldn't reach something from the toy box or he had dropped his spoon at dinner time!
Not only has it helped Max communicate to us, we have been able to educate Max about so much, through signing.
I truly believe that signing is the best tool you can give your child and Sing and Sign classes are so much fun that you wont even realise you're learning!
About our classes/ Terms and Conditions
Which class for you?
SING AND SIGN BABES - these classes are for parents and babies from BIRTH to around 6 months which prepares you for the Stage 1 Sing and Sign baby signing classes and builds the framework for communicating with your baby. Suitable for babies not yet crawling (rolling over and sitting is fine). The curriculum will cover: eye contact, varied facial expression, shared looking, a few selected signs, attention and anticipation, understanding the value of repetition, speech sounds, rhythm & intonation of speech and rhyme, up/down/rocking/tickling play, response to and enjoyment of music, parent commenting and responding to baby-led conversation, song ideas for key activities during the day (face to face) ....and developing communication between baby and parent.
STAGE 1: These classes are ideal for babies from around 6 months to 14 months of age and if you have little or no signing experience. Babies typically go through a very gestural stage between 9-18 months. Sing and Sign will show you some extra and more specific gestures to use from around 6 months to make this natural form of communication even more rewarding and beneficial for you and your child. You only need to learn a few signs to make a significant difference in your baby’s ability to communicate. You can lessen frustration, enrich language learning and have a lot of fun with it too.
STAGE 1 ADVANCED: This is a second term of Stage 1 - we would recommend completing two terms of Stage 1 if possible to reinforce the 100+ signs covered and for your baby to be in a familiar signing environment as they start to sign. This term has 10 new songs to keep you on your toes.
STAGE 2: For the more active toddlers aged 14 months to 24 months who have ideally completed two terms of Stage 1. Stage 2 classes are scheduled where the demand appears each term and where a Stage 2 teacher is available.
Course content: Foods, Colours, Weather, Opposites, Love and Manners, Being Helpful,
Phonics A-Z, Speech Sounds.
We know babies don't like to stay still so we don't expect them to! They are welcome to crawl/toddle within the circle we sit in - they will still be learning (you'd be surprised how much they can pick up!) We keep them entertained with Jessie Cat, instruments and surprises from the prop bag.
At the end of our music session the toys come out! Your teacher is available to answer any questions that may not have already been answered in class.
We learn all the signs through our easy to learn action-songs. At the first week's class you will receive by email the weekly handouts which recaps the topic of the week that we have taught in class.
"We both thoroughly enjoyed the classes - "eat" and "more" have become very popular at home!"
"Excellent - we have really enjoyed this term so far and appreciate the sociable tea/coffee aspect afterwards. Using signs at home. Thank you - would love to continue next term!"
"Brilliant mix of signing and music, makes it easier to learn the new signs."
"Good fun, educational and a brilliant way to spend a hour."
"Our teacher commanded the class well and achieved excellent rapport with both babies and mothers."
"The course has really helped Chloe's speech and social interaction. Thank you - we will miss Sing and Sign every Friday."
"Thomas is my 4th child and it has been great being able to communicate with him so early!"

Additional Family members & siblings
Family Members: We do welcome other family members as visitors in classes to see a one-off class. Grandparents, partners etc. Please ask BEFORE you bring family members with you. It can easily become uncomfortably over-crowded if many parents decide to bring a family member with them.
Older siblings: We will always make every effort to accept older siblings into classes. If you intend to bring an older sibling to your class, please inform us at the time of booking. In very rare circumstances we may have to decline this offer or limit numbers and this will only be because of health and safety concerns where space is limited. (In the case of numbers being limited, sibling places will be accepted on a first come first served basis) Please note that your children remain your responsibility at all times and parents must be alert to their children's behaviour and safety, especially in terms of the younger babies and that your teacher will approach you if she feels it is not working out.
Mobile Phones: Whilst we understand that it's not feasible for everyone to turn off their phones fully during class time, we would kindly request that they are muted or turned on to airplane mode for the duration of the class.
Answering a call or even a phone ringing is very distracting and will instantly ruin the momentum of a class.
Please respect your fellow class mates and step out of the class room if your call is urgent.
Eating: We kindly ask that during class times there be no food consumption.
For the health and safety of all our children, please consider that allergies are common and can be very serious.
We understand that children will get hungry, in which case we ask that snacks only be produced at the end of the lesson, during the coffee break.
At any point during class you are welcome to feed your baby milk or a drink.
Whilst we don't wish to upset anyone regarding snacks, the safety of the children is always our top priority.
At the end of each class a 15 minute break is provided at which point we can allow eating.
This clear guideline is aimed to help parents have a choice as to when their children are exposed to food stuffs.
We ask that all relevant medical information be provided at time of booking, this includes allergies and conditions that may cause concern during your lesson.
Conduct: In the extreme case were the conduct of an adult caregiver (parent, grandparent, childminder etc) is felt to be threatening or in any way detrimental to the smooth running of the class, you may be removed from the class without notice or reimbursement.
The safety of the children and their carers is our top priority and we have a zero tolerance for aggravating behaviour. Incidents will be reported to the management of the venue which may restrict your future visits.
I really hope that you will be delighted with your experience of Sing and Sign classes. I am absolutely committed to you finding that your class meets or exceeds your expectations and that you enjoy your classes enough to recommend Sing and Sign to all your friends!
However, sometimes things might go wrong and I would like to hear about it. Please do get in touch if you have a complaint or concern. I will always do my best to resolve any problems as quickly as possible and to everyone's satisfaction. If there is any aspect of the course/classes that you are unsure about, please don't be too shy to ask!

Does your child attend a nursery?
Sing and Sign has an excellent Nursery Affiliation Programme which will train staff on their own premises at a time to suit all. We will teach staff a selection of signs, tailor made to the nursery's individual requirements and design an Individual Action Plan to inspire staff and make signing fun and easy to incorporate. Following training, the nursery will receive a Certificate of Sing and Sign Affiliation together with ongoing access to our signing resources and a complimentary package of products.
If your baby attends nursery or you know of a childcare facility that would be interested in receiving further information, please do pass our details on, or contact us at the number/email above.
