Sing and Sign baby signing classes in... Harlow & Bishops Stortford
Welcome to Sing and Sign baby signing classes in Bishop's Stortford, Harlow and the surrounding area!
Hi, I'm Bryony and I am the Sing and Sign teacher for Bishops Stortford, Harlow and Sawbridgeworth. Having enjoyed signing with both my own children, I am thrilled to have the chance to share Sing and Sign with other families.
I first heard of Sing and Sign when my daughter Kira was about a year old. A friend had been to classes and I was amazed when she described how much she had been able to communicate with her daughter before speech. We watched the DVD at home and enjoyed it so much that we decided to go to classes and learn more. Although we started later than some families, Kira soon signed "more" and "all gone" and after that there was no stopping her! When she started to talk, the signs proved extremely useful in working out what she was saying and reducing frustration, and she talked and signed together for quite a while. I am sure this has contributed to making her the very articulate child she is today.
When Kira was 3, her brother Aaron came along and we all went back to Sing and Sign. He loved the classes just as much as she had and became more confident week by week; joining in, clapping and then signing. Although he is now 4 and a great talker, a few of the Sing and Sign songs have remained family favourites, and I still occasionally sing "Time To Tidy Up" at home when we need a bit of motivation!
I look forward to meeting you and your baby,
About classes in Bishop's Stortford, Sawbridgeworth and Harlow.
Classes will be small and relaxed so that you and your baby can get as much as possible from them. The course is designed to introduce the signs gradually, with lots of repetition, so that you learn them easily while you and your baby have lots of fun singing, playing the instruments, making animal noises and playing peek-a-boo with Jessie Cat!
Don't worry if you are not a confident singer, most of the tunes will be ones you know already, we only ever sing as a group, and the words and signs are far more important.
Sing and Sign is not just for Mums, if you are a Dad, Grandparent, Auntie or Uncle, Nanny or childminder, you are very welcome to bring the child in your care, and the weekly handouts will give you tips to share with the rest of the family.
Babes classes are for babies under 6 months, we introduce basic signs for you to use at home and encourage eye contact, anticipation, and movement with your baby through songs and rhymes.
Stage 1 is intended for babies from 6-15 months approximately, we build a vocabulary of signs during the term, concentrating on what your baby might want or need to tell you! You do not have to have attended Sing and Sign Babes to enjoy Stage 1. Most children will benefit from doing 2 terms of stage 1 before progressing to stage 2 but if you are unsure please contact me.
Stage 2 is for babies and toddlers 13months - 2 years. We include more movement and props, and use the signs as a tool to introduce new concepts such as colours and letter sounds, still teaching through songs.
